Essex News Daily Covers The Arc of Essex County's Involvement in Essex County Cares Initiative

May 4th, 2015

Essex County has partnered with seven local charities as part of the annual Essex County Cares program to raise awareness for local causes and fundraising events.

Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure; the Valerie Fund; the Run for Rachel/Rachel Coalition; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; the Give the Kids Hope Foundation Inc.; the American Heart Association Heart Walk and the Arc of Essex County were chosen this year to receive the special partnerships, which are meant to highlight the county’s support of philanthropic organizations that are making a difference locally.

But the nonprofits are not the only ones benefiting — because of the partnership, attendees to the charities’ events are eligible for a reduced $5 admission to Essex County’s Turtle Back Zoo, Codey Arena and miniGOLF Safari, all in West Orange, the day the event is held. Attendees must present their race bibs or proof of registration to get the discounted price.

Of course, the people benefiting most from the partnership are the thousands of sick and disabled patients for whom the organizations care. For this reason, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. is urging county residents to lend their support to the nonprofits’ fundraising events.

“Each of these well-respected organizations does a great deal to make a positive difference in and improve the quality of life for our residents,” DiVincenzo said in a press release. “I invite the public to run, walk, golf or donate to help out these really great causes.”
