The Arc of Essex County is saddened by the news that Herbert Glover passed away in July at the age of 73. Herbert was born in Newark, and when not spending time at the Maplewood Apartment Program, he enjoyed attending day programs in Orange and Maplewood.
Herbert loved to socialize and do odd jobs with staff, including landscaping, trash removal, and many other things. Herbert’s favorite pastime was watching wrestling matches on television with his roommate. When you witnessed Herbert watching one of these matches, he became so excited you felt that he was part of the match himself. Herbert also loved to watch police dramas and home improvement shows. He happily practiced his handwriting skills and enjoyed coloring, bowling with friends, and shopping for clothes. Herbert was well known for his taste in colorful clothing and for his quick wit.
Herbert is survived by his sisters and brother, and a host of other relatives, as well as friends, housemates, and staff at his apartment program. He was a beloved member of our Arc family and will be greatly missed.
