Adult Recreation Program Celebrates the Chinese New Year
January 14th, 2019
On Friday, January 11th, members of The Arc of Essex County’s Community Inclusion program celebrated the Chinese New Year during the monthly World of Food program at its Creative Visions location in Orange, NJ. The group enjoyed making crafts, learning about Chinese customs and traditions, and even received a Chinese fan and chop sticks.
The World of Food program, part of The Arc’s Community Inclusion, Recreation, and Respite Services, gathers participants to experience new adventures and cultures from around the world through food, games, and music along with reviewing healthy food choices and learning about how to read a menu, dining etiquette and other basic skills. Each month, a theme is chosen and an entrée of their choice is ordered while they prepare an appetizer or dessert from that culture.
The fun continued on Sunday, January 13th when the Community Inclusion program participants enjoyed a relaxing, cozy day in their pajamas while reading stories from the famous “Soup for the Soul” book. Attendees made a pot of delicious chicken noodle soup. Afterwards, everyone warmed up with hot chocolate and cookies baked earlier that day.
