Employee Spotlight: Dee Moon

September 10th, 2021

For the 22 years that Dee Moon has been working for The Arc of Essex County, one thing has never changed: the unconditional love for and from the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities she serves.

“You never know what to expect in a day, but you do know that when you come in you will always get to know their true selves, and they will appreciate you more than anything,” she says. “They look forward to you coming in, they miss you when you’re not here, and there’s a particular care that you give them that they recognize and appreciate.”

Dee, who started in 1999 as direct-care staff and has moved up through different management positions in the years since, says she has stayed at The Arc for so long because of that connection to people, and also because of the support she has received from the organization. “It’s very family oriented here, and I feel I’m part of the family,” she says. “I feel that I’m recognized, I feel that I’m appreciated, I feel supported.”

She says it’s a job that she can put her heart and soul into. “I love what I do. I love working with the consumers, and I love being part of their lives.”
