New Beginnings at Stepping Stones School

The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School kicked off the new school year on Thursday, September 6th. Students and teachers alike were excited to return to the classroom for another year of learning and fun.

In the spirit of new beginnings, Sue Brand was excited to start in her new role as school Principal. Previously, Sue was responsible for the operations of Stepping Stones School for nine years as the Director of Early Childhood and Education for The Arc of Essex County. She also recently completed her Masters of Arts in Education Leadership and now holds her NJ Department of Education Principal and Supervisor Certificates.

Joining Sue on the administration team as Assistant Principal is Heather Nydam. Heather joined The Arc of Essex County in May 2016 and has worked extensively in the NJ public schools as a special education teacher. She brings with her a Masters of Arts in Education and holds her NJ Department of Education Supervisor and Principal Certificates.

The Arc of Essex County's Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities serving children ages 3-10. Located in Roseland, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down syndrome and other students with similar educational and developmental needs.
