The Arc Remembers William Hubeny

October 27th, 2020

William “Willie” Hubeny was a 38-year resident and Day Program attendee of The Arc of Essex County.  He moved to The Arc’s Belmont group home with his best friend David in 1982 and shortly after began attending the Main Street Hub Day Program.  He would later transfer to The Arc’s Livingston Community Resource Center (now part of the West Caldwell Hub) and eventually “retired” and began attending The Arc’s Avenues seniors’ program.

In 2009 he moved to the Bloomfield Group Home where he formed close relationships with his peers and staff alike.  A truly happy man, Willie loved celebrating birthdays. He would joyfully serenade friends and staff, singing happy birthday before enjoying cake.  He excitedly dressed up for Halloween every year, loved all kinds of music and singing along during karaoke, attending events in the community, and ringing the program bell at the end of Day Programs.

The Arc of Essex County conveys its condolences to the Hubeny family and Willie’s extended Arc family during this difficult time. If you would like to make a donation to The Arc of Essex County in his memory, please visit and note that your donation is in memory of Willie – an acknowledgement of your tribute will be sent to family members.
