SYA Celebrates Global Studies Graduation

A man in a gray collared shirt holds up a certificate with different countries' flags on it while smiling next to a woman in a black shirt and blue mask.

An enthusiastic group from the SYA Day Program took a special trip to Studio Arc to celebrate their graduation in a ceremony that marked the completion of a global curriculum they have been studying the last several months.

After watching a slideshow with images from their lessons about China, India, Australia, Mexico, Africa, and Canada, the group had a robust discussion about India with The Arc of Essex County’s Senior Recruiter Anjana Padmanabhan and learned more about Ghana with Adult Services Assistant Director Dacia King-Sarkodie. They then completed their “final exam,” matching images to the countries they corresponded with. Finally, each graduate was presented with a diploma from Studio Arc Manager Evelyn Gallik and Activities Supervisor Christa DeMaio before celebrating with a lunch that featured food from the countries they studied. All were dressed in their finest clothes and were presented with flowers and boutonnieres, donated by Personal Touch Florist in Nutley, to wear for the duration of the ceremony and activities. It was a colorful and lively celebration!
