It is with deep sadness that The Arc of Essex County reports that our long-time friend and colleague, Susan Knipper, passed away in May. Susan began her journey at The Arc 30 years ago as a manager in Residential Services, where she developed and maintained many long-lasting friendships. Susan has made an everlasting impact as the agency trainer for more than 25 years. Because of Susan’s commitment, dedication, and love of our residents and consumers, she always found ways to remain involved in their lives. Using her talents as a trainer in this capacity, Susan developed and led many impactful programs, including the Life Skills Program, Travel Club, and the Mobile Crew.
In her role as the Training Manager, Susan taught, engaged with, and developed relationships with every person at The Arc, from the direct support staff to the senior directors, and her impact helped shape the quality standards that The Arc is so proud of today. Susan served as the co-chair of the Statewide Training Agency Committee for many years and remained an active member of the NJ Trainers workgroup. Through this committee, Susan became regarded as a statewide expert in developing and implementing training curriculums and standards.
It is hard to capture the impact Susan had on our agency; in short, she was a dear friend, colleague, supporter of everything Arc, had many passions, was talented, committed, and loved. She will be deeply missed.
