The vision for Studio Arc is coming to life as a spectrum of activities have been engaging The Arc of Essex County’s adult day program participants and residents, with more classes and activities regularly added to the schedule.
Arc consumers have been studying an “artist of the month,” learning about their techniques and style, and then using a similar approach to create their own works of art. From Georgia O’Keeffe’s landscapes to Wayne Thiebaud’s still life paintings to Jean-Michel Basquiat’s bold collages to Claes Oldenburg’s sculptures, each month brings a new artist to be inspired by as Arc artisans complete their own masterpieces.
The Girls’ Night In evenings—which feature socializing, dining, and crafting—recently expanded to include more group homes. In January, ladies from the Bloomfield, Millburn, and West Caldwell homes joined the Irvington Avenue women for the night and had a fantastic time. Singing and dancing to Motown’s greatest hits was a highlight, and the attendees reported that they can’t wait to come back for the next one.
Other regularly scheduled programs include Man Cave Mondays, Tai Chi, yoga, self-care crafting, and open studio time, when participants can try new skills such as gel-plate printing. (New classes for children and teens are also regularly added to the rotation.) The calendar keeps filling up and Arc consumers of all ages continue to learn new skills and make new memories together.
