Arc Spotlight: Clinton

In 2023, Clinton moved into his own apartment in The Arc of Essex County’s Park Place Apartment Program in Irvington, and in the year since, he’s enjoyed a balance of personal autonomy and staff support.

“It’s my first time living on my own and it’s been great,” he says.

Clinton, who is 33 years old, is active in various sports leagues and has regular visits with family. He is currently looking for a job, and travels to his activities and appointments using public transit. He has made friends among the nine other Arc residents who live in the Park Place apartments and is friendly with other neighbors in the building as well.

Independent Living Manager Kiazsha Richardson says that Clinton transitioned into his apartment quickly. “He adjusted to living on his own very well! The last year has been great for him. He is able to independently go into the community, make financial decisions, handle his medical appointments, and more.” If Clinton does have a need that he can’t fulfill on his own, Arc staff are on site to provide the guidance and help he needs.

Clinton says he is happy to have the independence that the apartment offers him and values having a space of his own. “I love it here,” he says.

The Arc of Essex County is proud to tell the story of Clinton and other stories of successful and smooth transitions into our residential programs.
