The Arc of Essex County applauds The Candle Lighters as the group marks 50 years of providing financial support for under and non-funded programs of The Arc of Essex County. As the longest standing and largest grant supporter of The Arc, The Candle Lighters have provided more than $2 million financial support over these 50 years.
Established in 1974 by parents, staff, and friends, The Candle Lighters’ mission is to assist in the growth and well-being of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in The Arc of Essex County community. With the support of their fundraising efforts, The Arc has been able to offer an Early Intervention (EI) program with bi-weekly therapeutic groups for children and parent support groups facilitated by a licensed social worker. The group also provides funding for full or partial scholarships to families who would otherwise not be able to afford participating in the EI program. Countless children and families have participated and benefited from these programs over these 50 years.
At the previous Stepping Stones School and EI location in Roseland, The Candle Lighters provided financial support for a state-of-the-art therapy and sensory room for these youngest children.
Through their extraordinary and diligent efforts, the Candle Lighters obtain funds by holding fundraising events such as the annual Tricky Tray, and “Cocktails for a Cause” every other autumn, as well as through annual appeals and direct donations.
Those who want to support The Candle Lighters can do so by attending the Tricky Tray, coming up on March 16 at the Hanover Manor. The group is also seeking volunteers to help at events, to become a Candle Lighter, or be a member on their board. To learn more, visit https://www.thecandlelighters.org/.
The Arc of Essex County is grateful for the 50 years of support provided by this outstanding group of volunteers and looks forward to many more years of partnership. Congratulations to The Candle Lighters on this half-century milestone!
