Arc Spotlight: Lisa

Lisa from The Arc of Essex County’s West Caldwell Hub Day Program has made a couple of moves over the last few years. In 2020, she moved with her sister and her family from California to New Jersey in order to be closer to her nephew and his growing family. Then, in 2024, she moved from Randolph to Livingston, which is when she joined The Arc of Essex County family.

Program Supervisor Shawn Santos at WCHUB says that Lisa’s arrival to the day program in December was like a ray of sunshine. “We love her here,” he says. “She’s got a great personality and always shows kindness.”

Lisa is still getting settled into her new location, but says she’s been enjoying meeting new people and listening to favorite songs on the van ride to and from the program (especially Al Green). She loves drawing pictures and she savors any opportunity to go to Dunkin Donuts. “Chocolate and coffee are my favorite,” she says. You can tell which walker is Lisa’s because it’s colorfully decorated with pipe cleaners and ribbons. And she lights up when you ask her about her nephew or his children. “I love spending time with him,” she says.
