Stepping Stones Welcomes Bubbles, Crafts, and Guest Readers

A group of three children look with amazement at bubbles, which they are trying to pop while sitting in their chairs.

Children at Stepping Stones School and their families were treated to a fun and interactive bubble show to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. Mike from New Jersey Bubble Parties called up volunteers of all ages as he showed off bubble tricks and gave each student, teacher, and family member the opportunity to stand inside a giant bubble. In addition, the school community wore blue and yellow clothing and accessories to represent Down syndrome awareness.

That wasn’t the only celebration during the month of March, as the school also welcomed students from the Deron School to work with the children on a St. Patrick’s Day craft project together.

In addition, during Read Across America Week, the students had a series of visitors who read stories to the classrooms. Guest readers included family members, officers from the Fairfield Police Department, and a group of The Arc of Essex County’s adult day program participants. Some Student Champions from the upcoming Building Tomorrows 5K event also recorded themselves reading to students, which were shown in the classrooms.

The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education-approved private school for students with disabilities. Located in Fairfield, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down syndrome and other students with similar educational and developmental needs.
