Dancing and Crafting in September for Adult Recreation

A group of people gathered together raising their hands in the air.

The Arc of Essex County’s Adult Recreation activities in September included a delightful array of engaging experiences. Participants enjoyed a farm-to-table meal, a lively Zumba class, and a creative craft session together. Throughout these activities, participants had a wonderful time socializing and building connections, making every moment memorable and fun.

At the Farm-to-Table meal on September 15, the Group Respite participants shopped a local farmer’s market for fresh produce and returned to The Arc’s Opportunity Zone to prepare a fruit or vegetable salad of their choice, all with local seasonal items.

On September 22, the Community Inclusion group enjoyed an afternoon of dancing together during a Zumba class at Studio Arc. They moved to choreographed salsa and international music and then were rewarded for their hard work with a light and healthy lunch. Community Inclusion participants returned to Studio Arc on September 29 to create a terracotta pot scarecrow craft, just in time for the autumn season.

In addition, the Matinee and Mingle moviegoers watched “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” together on September 8 and the bowling team hit the lanes on three September Saturdays. And the Hotel Respite group spent a busy weekend together September 27 to 29.

The Adult Recreation program is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of its participants and provide them with enjoyable and meaningful experiences. If your loved one with intellectual or developmental disabilities is interested in educational programming, community experiences, seasonally themed events, or weekend group respite programs, you can learn more about all of these activities at The Arc’s Recreation Services page, and view the Fall Recreation Catalog.
