With Super Mario Brothers and superheroes, Disney princesses and ballerinas, Flintstones and firefighters (and more!), the children at Stepping Stones School dressed up as a wide range of characters for their first Halloween at the new school building in Fairfield.

Due to the parking lot layout, the traditional outdoor “Trunk or Treat” event was moved inside to the school’s all-purpose room, where staff and families assembled themed tables and gave out candy, snacks, and other goodies to the children as they made their way around the room. The creativity and care that went into the themed tables—as well as parent and staff costumes—made the day all the more magical for the students.

The Halloween festivities capped off a busy October of activities at Stepping Stones, including a celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, lessons centered on pumpkins, apples, and leaves, and even a visit from the Fairfield Fire Department to learn about fire safety.

The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities. Located in Fairfield, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down syndrome and other students with similar educational and developmental needs.
