Student Champions Named for 2026 Building Tomorrows Event

The Arc of Essex County is proud to recognize the 15 Student Champions who have been selected to support the 28th Annual Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest, taking place on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

This year’s Student Champion cohort is strengthened by the return of nine Student Champion Mentors, who previously served in the role and are coming back to guide and support the new champions. Together, they form a dedicated team of young leaders committed to promoting inclusion, empathy, and community engagement.

The Arc reviewed dozens of applications from students across Essex County that reflected thoughtful perspectives on leadership, kindness, and disability inclusion. After careful consideration, the selection committee chose an enthusiastic group of Student Champions representing grades 3 through 11 and hailing from nine towns throughout the area, including Caldwell, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair, Parsippany, Roseland, Verona, West Caldwell, and West Orange.

Student Champions play an important role in supporting the success of Building Tomorrows by serving as ambassadors for the event, encouraging participation and fundraising, and helping to raise awareness about The Arc of Essex County’s mission. Each Student Champion will be highlighted on The Arc of Essex County’s social media channels in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for a series of posts that share their stories.

The Building Tomorrows event features a scenic 5K race, a family-friendly fundraising walk, and a Fun Fest filled with activities and entertainment for all ages. Proceeds directly benefit local programs and services that help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live full and meaningful lives.

The Arc of Essex County is grateful to this year’s Student Champions and returning mentors for their leadership. We look forward to working with this inspiring group as they help make the 2026 Building Tomorrows event a meaningful and memorable day for the entire community!
