Camp Hope Opens 70th Summer Season

Camp Hope officially opened its gates to campers on June 29, welcoming children, teens, and adults with IDD for another summer of growth, fun, and friendship. This year marks a special milestone as The Arc of Essex County’s Camp Hope celebrates its 70th season serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Campers arrived at the East Hanover campground for the start of the 2026 season and immediately reunited with friends, met new counselors, and jumped right into a full schedule of activities designed to create lasting memories throughout the summer.

The opening week’s theme, “Four Seasons Week,” gave campers the opportunity to experience the best parts of spring, summer, fall, and winter before taking the day off on Friday in honor of the Fourth of July. The excitement will continue throughout July with a lineup of themed weeks and special activities: campers will celebrate everything from Valentine’s Day to Independence Day during Holiday Week, test their skills and teamwork during Game On! Week, explore new ideas and hands-on experiences during Discovery Week, and take center stage for music, performance, and creativity during Broadway Week.

In addition to themed activities, campers will enjoy many of the experiences that have made Camp Hope a beloved summer destination for seven decades, including swimming, arts and crafts, and sports and games that encourage socialization, recreation, and personal growth.

As Camp Hope celebrates its 70th season, supporters can help ensure that future generations of campers continue to enjoy these life-changing experiences. Donations to The Arc of Essex County’s Spring Appeal help keep Camp Hope thriving. To make a contribution, visit ArcGiving.com.
