The Arc of Essex County Remembers Ann Marino

The Arc of Essex County is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Ann Marino, a resident of the Green Ave group home. Annie was truly an icon in The Arc family, having been in our services since 1981. Born in 1942, Annie lived with her family for the first 20 years of her life, then moved to the North Jersey Developmental Center. In 1981 she moved to The Arc’s Orange group home and lived there for six years. In 1987, she moved to the Nutley group home and remained there for 32 years. In 2019, Ann’s [...]

The Arc of Essex County Remembers Charles Thomas

It is with great sadness that The Arc of Essex County announces the passing of our beloved Charles “Charlie” Thomas. Charles Thomas, affectionally known as “Charlie,” was the Man of the West Caldwell (Beechtree) group home. He had lived at Beechtree for almost 17 years. During that time, Charlie could be seen hanging outside, waving to the neighbors in the community and chatting with the postman. He was known for his feistiness, charming ways, and being full of energy. He loved spending time outside, in his bedroom watching Mass, playing board games, discussing baseball, or dining out at his favorite [...]

Stepping Stones Moves to New School Building in Fairfield

After more than a dozen years at its Roseland site, Stepping Stones School relocated to a brand-new building in Fairfield, bringing a fresh look and more space to the students in The Arc of Essex County’s care. The new location, nestled in the Kingsbridge office park and situated directly across the parking lot from Studio Arc, encompasses 23 rooms and offices and covers 12,333 square feet, all on a single ground-level. Construction lasted about six months. After a field trip visit from students and staff on Friday, February 16, the final move was made over the Presidents’ Day weekend, and the [...]

Children and Teen Classes at Studio Arc

The Studio Arc class schedule is bursting with classes that welcome our youngest artists, including a STEAM class series for teens and an after-school printmaking class for elementary-aged children. For the STEAM classes, teenage participants have engaged in a variety of fun and educational activities, solving problems with peers through science, technology, engineering and design, art, and math. Starting on February 10 and running through March 2, the classes have included Art Creation (making paper and art supplies, including homemade watercolors, scented play doughs, and glue); Heart Health (making a plastic-bag heart pump, building a stethoscope, and creating a clay circulatory [...]

February Festivities for Arc Residents
