Arc Spotlight: Joanne

Joanne, affectionately known as Jojo, goes back decades with The Arc of Essex County, to her days as a student in our Stepping Stones School and Early Intervention programs. Now in her 30s, she is a vibrant and active part of the SYA Day Program. When asked what she loves best about her program, Jojo smiles and says “everything!” At the program center in Nutley, she likes making artwork, and out in the community she enjoys getting meals with her friends and going shopping (especially for coloring supplies). Staff Spotlight: Shaniquah Harris

Even though she grew up as the youngest of four children, Shaniquah Harris’s older brother called her “mama,” since she was always instinctively caring for her siblings and attentive to others’ needs. That natural gift for caregiving followed her through her professional life and to her role today as Senior Manager of Bridges Day program. Day Programs Shine in “Arc’s Got Talent” Showcase at Studio Arc

The Arc of Essex County’s Day Programs brought energy and creativity to Studio Arc for an action-packed talent show on Friday, January 23. The event, dubbed “Arc’s Got Talent,” filled the space with music, cheers, and heartfelt performances. Thirty-six performers took the stage, wowing the audience with diverse acts that showcased their individual personalities and talents. Most participants delivered solo performances, though there were a handful of duo and trio acts. Performers rotated through the spotlight with dancing, singing, stand-up comedy, and poetry readings. Community Connections Art Classes at Studio Arc

In recent months, Studio Arc has hosted Community Connections, a weekly art class for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities open to the wider community. This class was intentionally designed for individuals who don’t attend other Arc of Essex County programs but are interested in taking an art class in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Community Connections offers a chance to explore creativity, learn new skills, and build social connections in a relaxed, supportive setting.
