During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, which ran from September 11 to 17, The Arc of Essex County took the opportunity to show our front-line DSP staff how much they are valued and appreciated.

Each DSP staff member was celebrated with a gift of an Arc mug and chocolate as a thank you for all they do every day to look after the individuals in their care, keeping them safe, healthy, and happy. The Arc also featured a series of gratitude from family members of residents and consumers, including:

• “I have always appreciated The Arc’s staff. That appreciation has tripled over the past three years that my daughter has lived in her group residence. The manager and staff are so caring and invested in the residents. Hats off to the staff who have made a safe, warm, and comfortable environment for my daughter.” –Jo-Anne

• “Just knowing that our son is in a safe place being kept busy and happy by people who really care means more to me than we can ever fully express! Thank you for all the imaginative ways you come up with to keep them happy. None of this is easy to do. Please know we appreciate you very, very much! Thank you and God Bless you all.” –Lynda and Anthony

• “The DSPs in my grandson’s home respond positively to his social ability. He enjoys the association he has with all the DSPs. I bring him to New York often for a few days to visit with his family, but I love to hear him say to me, ‘I am ready to go home!’ Thank you to all of you for providing this special young man with love and a great home.” –Glenice

• “The Arc DSPs make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. The excellent quality of the caregivers can best be confirmed by when our daughter sees some of them, she rushes up to them and gives them a hug. Many events and days can be challenging, but the staff have always risen to the occasion to provide health, safety, and a wonderful way of life. The words ‘thank you’ are not sufficient!” –Eileen
