The Arc of Essex County Remembers Jeffrey Smith

The Arc of Essex County Remembers Jeffrey Smith; featuring candle with The Arc of Essex County logo

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jeffrey Smith.  Jeffrey moved into The Arc of Essex County’s West Orange Group Home in 1998, and attended our Livingston/Reach CRC, which became the West Caldwell Hub day program.

Jeffrey enjoyed watching General Hospital and the Channel 7 news with his best friend, William. Jeffrey and William talked every day in Jeffrey’s bedroom about sports and William’s extensive record collection. Their bond was unbreakable. His favorite teams were the Giants and the Yankees. He loved attending Camp Hope each summer, Man Cave Mondays at Studio Arc, and participating in community lunch while at the West Caldwell Hub. Jeffrey also enjoyed bowling, Dunkin Donuts coffee, clothes shopping, and Halloween parties. He was always very helpful around the house and would often take the garbage and recycling out.

Jeffrey enjoyed spending time with his niece Mandy and her family during the holidays. He had an amazing memory and would often remind staff of his upcoming medical appointments. To know Jeffrey was to love him, he was always smiling and happy. He enjoyed being with his staff and housemates just as much as they enjoyed being with him. Jeffrey will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
