Student Champions Selected for Building Tomorrows 5K

The Arc of Essex County congratulates and thanks the 18 Student Champions who are poised to help make the April 27 Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest a huge success.

With dozens of applicants from throughout Essex County, the Student Champion program drew thoughtful responses from students of all ages. Each applicant shared why they wanted to be a Student Champion, what experiences they had interacting with people who are different from them, what makes them a good leader, and how they have been a good friend.

After reviewing so many stellar applications, The Arc’s event committee ended up with a final cohort of 18 Student Champions that includes students in grades 3 to 12, representing the towns of Caldwell, East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair, Short Hills, South Orange, Verona, and West Caldwell. We look forward to working with a fantastic and enthusiastic team!

The 26th Annual Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the Clipper Pavilion in West Orange. It features a scenic 5K race, followed by a fundraising walk and a Fun Fest with family-friendly entertainment and activities. All proceeds will directly benefit local children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Registration is $30 for 5K runners who sign up before April 1, and $10 for walkers, who are encouraged to fundraise. T-shirts are guaranteed for all runners who register by April 1 and walkers who raise at least $25 by April 1. Medals will be given to runners by age group and prizes to the top fundraising individuals and teams. Admission to the Fun Fest is $5 (free to event registrants and children under 5). Festivities will include a children’s cooking station from Chef it Up, creative projects from Indigo Art Studios, a bubble station with OMG Bubbles, and lively music from Dancing DJs, with more activities to be added in the weeks ahead.
