Participants in The Arc of Essex County’s Adult Recreation programs had the opportunity to listen to live tunes and play some retro arcade games during their July adventures.

On July 14, a group attended Maplewoodstock in downtown Maplewood, where they enjoyed the live music on stage while also shopping in the booths and enjoying each other’s company.

On July 21, they took a trip to Asbury Park, where they played retro arcade games in the Silverball Museum. Favorites included pinball, air hockey, skee-ball, and shuffle board.

The month also featured two bowling sessions at Bowlero in Belleville on July 13 and 27, as well as a “Matinee and Mingle” event on July 28, where moviegoers watched “Deadpool and Wolverine.” Afterwards, they gathered for lunch to discuss the film, where they had a lengthy conversation about the action, special effects, costumes, and characters, with many saying it was their new favorite movie.

The Adult Recreation program is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of its participants and provide them with enjoyable and meaningful experiences. If your loved one with intellectual or developmental disabilities is interested in educational programming, community experiences, seasonally themed events, or weekend group respite programs, you can learn more about all of these activities at The Arc’s Recreation Services page, and view the Spring-Summer Recreation Catalog. Activities include crafting at Studio Arc, day trips to local attractions, seasonal parties, and more.
