The Arc of Essex County’s Senior Director of Development and Communications Heather Comstock was honored as Professional of the Year at The Arc of New Jersey’s Award Celebration on May 20.

The Arc of New Jersey’s annual event, held at the Imperia in Somerset, was an opportunity to highlight and thank the individuals, organizations, and corporations that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the state.

“It is truly wonderful to be able to recognize what can only be called the best of the best of our community,” said The Arc of New Jersey Executive Director Thomas Baffuto. “Tonight’s award recipients are an exceptional group of people.  Their incredible work and contributions to this field are both inspiring, and an excellent illustration of what our community can do.”

In her role at The Arc of Essex County, Heather has created and executed the organization’s annual fundraising plans for more than 11 years. Her efforts include fundraising appeals, grant procurement, and marketing strategy, as well as managing events. In addition to serving as a staff liaison to The Arc of Essex County’s Board of Trustees, Heather co-chairs The Arc of New Jersey’s Development Committee and manages the annual Wings for All event at Newark Liberty International Airport, coordinating with various partners including United Airlines and the Port Authority of NY/NJ. Beyond The Arc, Heather was selected to serve on Charity Navigator’s National Consultive Council of Nonprofit Leaders, representing human service nonprofits.

“I am so humbled by the generosity of spirit I witness every day within The Arcs,” Heather said during her acceptance speech. “It is this kindness that fuels me to do the small things I can to move our mission forward.”

With her hard work, commitment to The Arc mission, and extensive creativity, Heather is an outstanding leader in The Arc community and a fitting recipient of The Arc of New Jersey’s 2025 Professional of the Year Award. The Arc of Essex County congratulates Heather on this well-deserved award, and thanks The Arc of New Jersey for the recognition.
