Participants in The Arc of Essex County’s Adult Recreation, Respite, and Community Inclusion programs enjoyed a variety of social, recreational, and creative activities in January and early February, including:
- Bowling outings on January 10, 24, and 31, where participants enjoyed friendly competition and time together at the lanes.
- An extra lively Saturday Respite on January 10, where folks enjoyed a variety of “Minute to Win It” table games that brought teams together to work toward a shared goal.
- Matinee and Mingle on January 11, featuring a trip to AMC Clifton to see Anaconda, followed by time to socialize and discuss the movie.
- A high-energy visit to Funplex in East Hanover on January 18, with arcade games and rides.
- A Friday evening “World of Food” cooking class on January 23, which explored Chinese cuisine through food sampling and cultural discussion.
- An abbreviated (due to winter weather) but still action-packed Hotel Respite Weekend on January 23 and 24.
- A Valentine’s card-making session at Studio Arc on February 1, giving participants a chance to get creative and make handmade cards for loved ones.
The Adult Recreation program is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of its participants and provide them with enjoyable and meaningful experiences. If your loved one with intellectual or developmental disabilities is interested in educational programming, community experiences, seasonally themed events, or weekend group respite programs, you can learn more about all of these activities at The Arc’s Recreation Services page, and view the current Recreation Catalog. Activities include crafting at Studio Arc, day trips to local attractions, seasonal parties, and more.
