The Arc of Essex County released its 2024–2025 Impact Report, titled The Architecture of Possibilities, this February, highlighting a year of thoughtful growth, innovation, and progress in support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The report lays out a series of investments in infrastructure and programs. In residential services, The Arc expanded housing options while strengthening existing residences. A newly renovated group home opened in West Caldwell, two supported living apartments launched in Fairfield near Studio Arc, and key renovations were completed at long-standing properties, designed to increase accessibility, comfort, and independence.

Programs also expanded across age groups. New Social Skills classes supported children and teens in building communication and emotional awareness, while adults benefited from enhanced day services, including the launch of Bridges II for individuals with higher support needs. Studio Arc continued to grow as a creative hub, offering expanded arts instruction and new opportunities for self-expression.

Innovation also played a central role, with new technology-driven programs such as GameU video game–design classes and Kibu live-streamed lessons focused on life skills, job readiness, and personal growth. The Arc also fully implemented the My25 Plan, a nutrition program now supporting more than 130 residents that simplifies complex dietary needs into a user-friendly meal plan for residential staff to follow.

The year marked an important leadership transition as long-time CEO Linda C. Lucas announced her retirement after 47 years of service to The Arc of Essex County. With Kathleen Hinnigan-Cohen stepping into the role of CEO, The Arc moves forward with a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future.

Made possible by dedicated staff, generous donors, and committed community partners, the 2024–2025 Impact Report reflects what can be achieved when care, creativity, and purpose come together, and underscores The Arc’s ongoing commitment to building possibilities for the future.
