Participants in The Arc of Essex County’s Adult Recreation, Respite, and Community Inclusion programs enjoyed a variety of social, recreational, and engaging activities throughout April, including:
- Bowling trips on April 11, 18, and 25
- A trip to Mount Airy Casino in the Poconos on April 12
- A springtime cherry blossom trip on April 19 that was reimagined due to rainy weather, with the group instead visiting the Newark Museum, where participants explored exhibits and still enjoyed a fun and enriching day
- Making Mother’s Day crafts together on April 26
- Tasty Treats Cooking Classes, where participants enjoyed preparing plant-based meals together
- A memorable Hotel Respite Weekend that included a stop at the 28th Annual Building Tomorrows event, where participants joined the community for the 5K, Family Walk, and Fun Fest festivities, enjoying games, activities, and a lively atmosphere. They also went to see the movie Michael and discussed the film afterwards, and went Mother’s Day shopping, wrapping the gifts together when they returned to the hotel.
The Adult Recreation program is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of its participants and provide them with enjoyable and meaningful experiences. If your loved one with intellectual or developmental disabilities is interested in educational programming, community experiences, seasonally themed events, or weekend group respite programs, you can learn more about all of these activities at The Arc’s Recreation Services page, and view the current Recreation Catalog. Activities include crafting at Studio Arc, day trips to local attractions, seasonal parties, and more.
