Adult Recreation Roundup

August was packed with opportunities for participants in The Arc of Essex County’s Adult Recreation programs to get moving, try something new, spend time with friends, and make the most of the final weeks of summer. Activities included:

  • On August 2, participants got cozy for Pajamas, Poetry & Puzzles at Opportunity Zone, where they wore their favorite PJs and enjoyed an afternoon of creativity, reflection, puzzles, and time with friends.
  • The Bowling group hit the lanes at Bowlero Belleville on August 8 and 22, enjoying some friendly competition while practicing taking turns, keeping score, and cheering one another on.
  • On August 9, participants headed to Bear Mountain State Park, where they enjoyed brunch at the Bear Mountain Inn overlooking the Hudson Valley, followed by time exploring the park, riding the carousel, and stopping for a sweet treat.
  • On August 16, participants returned to Camp Hope for “Wet & Wild Camp Style,” an afternoon filled with games, music, outdoor fun, and plenty of opportunities to cool off on the splash pad.
  • Zumba with Ms. J. got everyone moving on August 23 at Opportunity Zone, with participants dancing along to upbeat salsa and international music during a fun, high-energy workout.
  • To close out the month on August 30, Books & Buffet combined reading, socializing, and good food. Participants spent time browsing books and relaxing with peers at Barnes & Noble before heading to Flaming Grill for a buffet lunch and conversation.

In addition to these special activities, Saturday Respite and weekday After-Work programs gave participants recurring opportunities to enjoy arts and crafts, games, cooking, community outings, and time with friends.

The Adult Recreation program is always looking for new ways to enrich the lives of its participants and provide them with enjoyable and meaningful experiences.
