Arc November Open House to Focus on Medicaid, Special Needs Trusts, and Adult Services

Planning for the future can bring a lot of questions for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. This November, The Arc of Essex County will bring together legal guidance and information about Arc programs and services during a special evening designed to help families navigate some of those important considerations.

Planning for the Future: An Arc Open House and Law Firm Presentation on Medicaid & Special Needs Trusts will take place on Wednesday, November 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Arc’s Opportunity Zone, 50-58 Burnett Ave. in Maplewood.

The evening will include a 6 p.m. presentation by S. Paul Prior of Hinkle, Prior, Fischer & Oberweis, who has represented people with disabilities and their families for more than 25 years. His practice focuses on areas of disability law including guardianship, financial entitlements, access to services, and estate and Special Needs Trust planning.

During the presentation, Prior will discuss Medicaid and the renewal process, maintaining Medicaid eligibility, Special Needs Trusts, and how assets can affect benefits and eligibility. Families are encouraged to bring their questions and learn more about considerations that can help protect benefits while planning for the future.

The event will also offer families an opportunity to explore The Arc. Representatives from The Arc of Essex County will be available before and after the presentation to share information about programs, services, and opportunities for older teens and adults, including Day Programs, Residential Services, Camp Hope, Respite, and Adult Recreation.

Whether a family is beginning to explore adult services, has questions about Medicaid, or wants to better understand how to plan for a loved one’s future, the evening is designed to provide useful information and resources all in one place. Registration is available at bit.ly/arc-open-house-medicaid. Questions can be directed to Dee Moon at 973-535-1181 ext. 1247.
